Redlands In The Influenza Pandemic of 1918-1919

Presented by Ann Cordy Deegan, Ph.D.

Program Description:

Comparisons of the influenza pandemic of 1918-1919 to today’s

Covid-19 pandemic are eerily similar, from anticipation of arrival in Redlands, closures to schools and other venues, to a second wave and efforts at staying safe. Add in the continuing horror of World War I, and the flu pandemic takes on even more stress to those in Redlands over one hundred years ago.

This presentation will look at comparisons to today, unique aspects of the flu pandemic, and personal stories of those in Redlands fighting the flu and those Redlands residents in World War I military camps exposed to it.

Live Stream of the event will be available on the AK Smiley Library Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/AKSmileyPublicLibraryRedlands
